MUM Video

Congratulations to all students who contributed with the scripting, acting, prop building, technical sound effects management and costuming for our MUM video. It has been sent into Catchment HQ, and we have received the following reply:

Hi Matthew and 7W

Success!! Thanks so much for your video. It looks as though you have some talented actors there, and a beautifully well behaved class too. No doubt you all had lots of fun with the making of the video. It is roughly 6 minutes long though, so it will need some editing to fit the required length. Are you intending to submit a catchment plan? Some components of your video would fit the bill for the Catchment plan too, as it is creative and dramatic.

Regards
Anne

Over the next week, we will complete our Part A and Part B. Keep up the good work!

  10. Let’s fast forward 5 years. We are in the year 2014. Since the disappearance of the blue-banded bee, people have been trying different methods and ways to make sure that the bees return and stay. They came up with a few ideas for short term; Bee boxes and food supplies. If bee boxes were put in, what would happen? We think that in the year 2014 the bees would definitely come and live in the bee boxes. But the colony would start to grow into a larger number. The bee boxes would not be able to hold that large number. So it will definitely have to be a short term solution.
If the plan for replenishing food supplies is carried out, what will happen in the future? With the replanting of the flowers, namely lantana and lavender, we hope that the bees will pollinate, and feed on these flowers. With the bees pollinating and feeding in the area, and colony number rising, the bees will then go and pollinate Mrs Kiri’s vegetables and other plants. This will result in a more fruitful product.
Food supplies will help the growth of the colonies, and the bee boxes will provide suitable habitat in the short term, resulting in bees staying and developing natural colony habitats once more.
In 2014 we hope that nature will have taken its course. In other words the habitat clearing will have stopped and the blue banded bees would return. We hope that there will be mud brick houses and that the bees will once again live in the mud brick. Over the years, the trees and plants will have grown bigger and taller, all different shapes and sizes so the bees will have a range of other natural places to live as needed.
If nature does take its course, then the bees will pollinate the flowers and keep living their happy lives inside the bee boxes and mud brick houses. Meanwhile, the town people would be very happy with their juicy tomatoes from the bees pollinating and everyone would be happy. This would mean the blue banded would stay.
